Service Description

With a focus on enabling you to go and make your own cheeses at home, our cheesemaking experience takes you from knowing nothing to being a self-sufficient cheesemaker with a selection of a few basic recipes. The day starts at 09:30 and will finish around 15:00, we also offer the option to begin at 07:00 to milk/meet our goats. Where possible, we aim to include the milk from that morning within the experience. Once you have met and milked the goats you will be given the opportunity to enjoy your morning and re-convene as scheduled at 09:30. In our experience you will learn; - Hygiene and equipment needed to make cheese. - The basic fundamentals of cheesemaking. - How cheesemakers understand and monitor the vat. - How to make a simple soft cheese. - How to make a hard-pressed cheese and the differences between the 'makes'. The experience does include one each of our Gafr Wen and Gafr Goch cheese, as well as some basic recipes for you to take home and experiment with. Accommodation The experience is based at Pen Y Bwlch Farm. If accommodation is required, this can be coupled with overnight camping in a Bell Tent which can be found on our website under the courses page where it is coupled with the cheese making experience. The overnight camping also includes an evening cheeseboard with locally sourced cheeses (where possible). Morning Goat Milking If you would like to join us and try milking the goats as a free optional extra, please add this to the notes upon the order. Clothing and Food You will be provided with an apron, dairy hair net and a milking hat. Because we will be outside, we would recommend you bring warm clothing also as well as comfortable warm footwear which you are able to stand in for an hour at a time. The cheesemaking space will not be open to the wind however it is best to be layered. We will also provide lunch at around 12:00 - 13:00 which is included in the cost. Please state in the booking field if you have a dietary requirement. Once your order is placed, we will email you with further details as soon as possible. Please note - The experience will take place under a canopy in a sheltered outside farm setting. Due to this, the cheeses you make may not be consumed however we do include some of our cheeses for you to take home.
